Minnesota Twins beat Chicago White Sox 7-4 at Target Field – MLB news
Minnesota Twins beat the Chicago White Sox 7-4 on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at the Target Field. The Twins posted seven runs on the board for a second consecutive game.
Alejandro De Aza made the perfect start for the White Sox as he hit a leadoff home-run in the first innings. The Twins got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second innings with the help of a three-run home-run by Brian Dozier.
Trevor Plouffe got an RBI single in the third to help his team with a three-run lead. Twins were further able to get a stranglehold over the game with a three-run bottom of the sixth innings.
Josh Willingham got an RBI single before Justin Morneau went deep for a two-run ball. The Twins at this point had a 7-1 lead.
The White Sox made a comeback by scoring three runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Dayan Viciedo scored an RBI single in the seventh innings. Adam Dunn got a two-run RBI double in the eighth innings to make the score 7-4.
In the last innings, the White Sox needed three runs to push the game further but Glen Perkins threw down a three up three down innings to make sure that no such issue troubled the Minnesota ballclub. It was the 18th save of the Season for Glen Perkins.
Starting pitcher Kevin Correia had a good game, surrendering just two runs in nearly seven innings. He currently has a 6-4 winning record.
Twins manager Ron Gardenhire was pleased with the win. He praised his hitters as well as his pitcher Kevin Correa for a good show.
“It was a nice win for us,” Gardenhire said. “We had some big ones in the seats there with Dozier early and then Morny getting into one, which was a lot of fun. And Correia was fantastic. He was changing speeds and moving in and out. We were facing a very good pitcher in Sale, and it was one of those games where we were hoping we could sneak past him and we did a decent job.”
The Twins took another step towards the .500 mark and are four games away from making it there. Some more performances such as these will certainly help their cause.
