Minnesota Twins beat Kansas City Royals 3-1 at Target Field - MLB News
Minnesota Twins defeated the Kansas City Royals 3-1 on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the Target field. It was a closely contested game in which the Twins eventually prevailed.

The Twins scored two runs in the fourth innings to get things underway, courtesy to an RBI double by Justin Morneau and then an RBI single by Oswaldo Arcia. Salvador Perez scored the lone run of the ballgame for the Royals courtesy of a solo home-run. Pedro
Florimon then drove in the third run in the seventh innings with the help of a sacrifice fly.

Royals manager Ned Yost said that Florimon was barely able to hit against the left handed pitchers but they were unable to prevent him from getting the crucial run in the seventh innings. His team needs to find a way to counter those situations.

"They had the bases loaded and Florimon up, who's hitting .095 against left-handed pitching, but he found a way to get the ball in the outfield," Yost said. "We've got to find a way to put the ball in play in those situations."

It was a great pitching performance by Samuel Deduno who threw down seven innings giving away just five hits and gave away a single run. The win leaves the pitcher with a 4-2 win-loss record in seven starts.

The pitcher said that having a good day means that you can dictate terms while you are making the pitches. He said that the plans fell into place.

"When you are ahead of the count, you can make pitches and everything was working," Deduno said

Twins' manager Ron Gardenhire was happy to see the performance by Deduno whom he said was constantly getting into the strike zone and using his fast ball to good effect.

"He was really good, working the strike zone -- pounding it, using his fast ball,"  Gardenhire said

It was a good win for the Twins who had a tough road trip which recently concluded with four losses and just a single win. The Minnesota ballclub now stands with a 35-40 win-loss record and is fourth in the American League Central, six games behind the leaders
Detroit Tigers.
