Minnesota Twins beat Milwaukee Brewers 6-5 in 14 innings – MLB News
Minnesota Twins defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 6-5 on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at the Miller Park. The special feature of the game was it went all the way into the 14th innings, making it
one of the longest games this season.
Both teams had scored early and by the end of the fifth innings, both teams were at four runs apiece. Twins scored in the eighth only to find the Brewers responding in the bottom of the ninth.
The game remained scoreless until pinch hitter, Eduardo Escobar, was able to get a run for the Minnesota ball club through a sacrifice fly in the 14th innings. The Brewers were unable
to reply and Twins took home the honours.
Eduardo was pleased that an opportunity was provided to him and he did not waste any time in cashing on it.
"It's my opportunity right there," Escobar said. "It's my chance. I got a good swing."
Brewers’ manager, Ron Roenicke, felt that it was a tough loss and the team was unable to take the attack to the opponents after tying the game in the ninth.
"It's a tough loss," Roenicke said. "Any time you go that many innings and lose it's tough. We played well, came back to tie it in the ninth but couldn't put together any offense after that."
Jean Segura was the surprise package in the game, as he amassed six singles and went 6-for-7.
Ron Gardenhire, the manager for the Twins, was left in disbelief by the strong show from Jean. He felt that the hitter was able to connect at anything that was thrown at him by the pitchers. The compactness of
the swing he believed aided Segura.
"Oh my, goodness gracious, he hits about everything you throw up there," Gardenhire said. "The guy's got one of the shortest, compact swings you've ever seen in your life and he seems to be on everything."
It was a good tough win for the Twins and they really had to grind it out. It is a game that will be remembered for much time to come for its length and the performance by Jean Segura.
