Minnesota Twins beat Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 at Target Field – MLB news
Minnesota Twins beat Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 in yet another close encounter on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at the Target Field.
There was some good pitching from both the sides but the real difference was made by Clete Thomas who had just been called from Triple-A Rochester after Aaron Hicks was moved to disabled list with a strained hamstring. The centre fielder showed his value
with four hits during the game including the go-ahead run.
Ron Gardenhire, the Twins’ manager was pleased with the outcome of the game. He was particularly pleased by the performance of Clete Thomas who played a pivotal role in the win. He also liked the performance from the lower order of the lineup.
“We had a lot of hits from the bottom of our order -- some big hits,” Gardenhire said. “So it was a fun win. It didn't look like much was going on through the early and middle part of the game, but we got rolling after that and had a lot of excitement. Clete
Thomas a big, big night. A huge night for him and our ballclub.”
The Phillies had scored two runs in the first innings to take the lead. The Twins got one back in the fourth innings courtesy of an RBI double by Clete.
Pedro Florimon got a groundout RBI in the sixth to make the score line 3-2. Two runs in the eighth innings allowed a single run lead to the Twins that they were able to carry through the game.
Mile Pelfrey pitched for seven innings and gave away three runs ensuring that the ballgame did not get out of hand. He was unable to record a result though.
Mike was happy with his overall performance and the control that he showed during the game.
“Luckily I was able to command both sides of the plate,” Pelfrey said. “Obviously it's another step in the right direction, and then we pulled it out in the end, which makes for a good night.”
The win was recorded by Brian Duensing and Glen Perkins recorded his 15th save of the season.
A good win for the Minnesota ballclub as they move another step closer to the .500 mark in the current season.
