Minnesota Twins beaten by Boston Red Sox 4-6 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins were beaten by the Boston Red Sox 4-6 at Fenway Park in Boston Massachusetts on Sunday, August 5 in the finale of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
After the Red Sox took an early 2-0 lead, Ben Revere hit a sacrifice fly to centre in the fifth to put the Twins on the board.
Josh Willingham homered to centre and Ryan Doumit connected for a two run shot in the bottom of the ninth to add spice to the proceedings but the Red Sox successfully held on to their two run lead to complete a deserving victory.
Twins’ starting pitcher Nick Blackburn was hit hard by the Red Sox as he gave up nine hits and four runs in just five innings to take his fourth loss of the season.
"I thought we had a decent chance there in the ninth," he said in a post game interview. "It's exciting to see."
"I think it's an easy decision. We just have to figure out all the parts," Valentine said of substitute pitcher Franklin Morales. "He wants to start and I want him to start. We can't always count on a guy getting injured to get him out there."
Although the Twins were unable to come up with a winning formula in Game 4, they should be very pleased with the way things went for them in the series. Emerging victorious in first three games, they adopted a very aggressive approach to get the better of
their opponents.
“We've had some success battling, we've been in a lot of close ballgames lately. We're not going to quit. I can guarantee you that," Twins’ Manager Ron Gardenhire said.
With their series victory, the Twins also improved their record to 47-61 and it will not be wrong to say that they still have a very thin chance of reaching the post-season.
Red Sox, on the other hand, were the superior of the two teams on Sunday as they beat the Twins in finer details of the game. Showing great composure, determination and fighting abilities, they managed to hold off Minnesota to avoid an embarrassing series
sweep in front of their home crowd.
