Minnesota Twins beaten by Cleveland Indians 4-5 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins were unable to handle the pressure as they lost to Cleveland Indians 4-5 at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota in the opening game of their two match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Although the Twins displayed some high quality fighting skills in the game on Monday, May 13, they failed to avoid their 25th defeat of the season. So far, nothing seems to be working for Terry Ryan and his men. Minnesota started the season on an extremely poor note and it will not be wrong to say that they are not learning their lessons.
Against Toronto Blue Jays, the Twins won two out of four games to give the fans something to cheer about and it will be interesting to see if they can come up with a better game plan in the second game to restore some of the lost pride.
The Twins made a decent start to the contest taking a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Jamey Carroll and Darin Mastroianni combined to make a wonderful play to up Minnesota’s confidence levels. The Indians responded immediately, thanks to Carlos Santana’s effort in the fourth inning. Casey Kotchman made the most available opportunities as he homered to the left to give 4-1 lead to the Indians.
"Especially coming off our first three-game losing streak, we blew the lead it would have hurt more," Indians manager Manny Acta said. "Those are the type of things that tend to carry over. It was nice that we were able to come back, especially playing on the road. It was very important to do that so that things don't start snowballing."
"Today, I tried to be aggressive because last time I was a little too fine with the hitters," Jeanmar Gomez said.
The Twins lifted their spirits and bounced back really well in the eighth, with Josh Willingham and Ryan Doumit hitting a home run each to level score at 4-4 as the match entered a very interesting phase but it was the Indians who eventually came out on top in the ninth. Shin Soo Choo drove in the winning run to break the tie.
