Minnesota Twins’ catcher Joe Mauer excited to put behind last season’s disappointment
The Minnesota Twins’ catcher Joe Mauer seems excited when he arrived in Arizona to participate in Spring Training and to play well against their Division team. He was happy to see his entire team united and working hard to attain the World Series title leaving behind all the bitter disappointment of injures and poor results from last season.
Talking to the media, Mauer gets extremely excited as he personally feels low about the last season where he was injured and could not perform as to what was expected from him. He told the media and explained, “It was good to get the gear back on," Mauer said. "I wasn't really too worried about it. Just getting out there and getting to run around with the guys. Catching Marquis, getting back behind the plate and seeing it."
"Even probably to start the year last year, I knew it was going to be a grind, be a struggle right from the get goes," Mauer said. "Did I know what was going to happen? No. But I knew it was going to be a tough year. I wasn't anywhere near close to where I am physically right now.”
Later, Twins’ manager Ron Gardenhire also described Mauer’s late preparations and how well he has carried his personal game after several injures he had last season. He was also very expressive about the level of commitment Mauer is showing for his team in order to show positive results next year.
In the previous season, Mauer was out a total of 58 games that affected his overall performance and stats as well. While on the other, his team lost 99 games finishing with the worst record in American League somewhat due to his non availability in those 58 games. Keeping in mind the 2011 season’s performance, the experts now believe that it is good to see the level of commitment the Twins and Mauer are showing and in the next few days when the Spring Training starts, the results will hopefully show how well the team has prepared for the upcoming regular season.
