Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer injured with strained thumb – MLB News
The Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer has been injured with sprained thumb. His injury took place on Sunday against the Cleveland Indians which can hamper him playing for some time in the ongoing season but the Twins management seems optimistic on his potential quick return.
Sharing some details about his injury, the Twins have stated in the media that Mauer has got mild sprain in his right thumb which is nothing serious as well.
However, some inside sources have explained in the media that Mauer’s right thumb is not perfect as he certainly needs some intention before coming on to the field.
Coming into the 2012 Major League Baseball season, Mauer was on day-to-day and playing a balanced game.
On Sunday, even before the game, he looked optimistic to face the Indians and told the media that they are here to win and will keep their great winning run towards post season qualification.
In the meanwhile, when he got injured and the team management pulled him out from the field, Mauer spoke to the media and told them about the injury he suffered.
"I fouled a pitch back, and I felt it on that, and then it was a little worse on that last swing, too," Mauer said. "But the good news is it should only be day-to-day, so that's good."
"Hopefully you guys [in the media] don't come up to me any more for that reason," he said. "But I'm hoping to get back in there real soon."
Before getting injured, Mauer was playing quite confidently into the season. Hitting with .298, Mauer hit three home runs, 25 RBIs and .407 OBP.
An eight year Major League veteran, Mauer certainly is a great player and knows his game quite well. His entire career has been remained consistent. From his behind the plate performance to his batting prowess on the plate, Mauer never showed any loop holes in his game.
His presence in the roster is very important however, the Twins are also concerned over his absence which could make things more difficult for the Twins who want dearly to qualify into the post season.
