Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer shows optimism ahead of next season – MLB News
The Minnesota Twins’ catcher Joe Mauer is showing some great optimism ahead of next Major League Baseball season as he joined the team for 2012 Spring Training in Arizona.
"I was talking with [hitting coach] Joe Vavra and this is the best I've felt in a long time, and it's almost like you want to get out there and do everything the first day, but it's a process," Mauer said. "It was good working today, though."
"It's just good to talk with him after and seeing what he likes to do and know what he likes doing," Mauer said. "I got the most out of that. Just talking with him and seeing what he's doing. It's good to see how his ball moves and how he likes to throw."
This is also a good sign for the franchise on a bigger scale as now they will be focusing more on other players’ performances and training. A seven year veteran with the Twins’, 28 year old catcher Mauer certainly possesses some huge skills and many honours. A four-time All Star selection along with American League Batting Champion, three-Gold Glove and four Silver Slugger awards certainly makes him a good player.
His recent comments in the media also make things little competitive for other Twins’ players as well. Looking at his last season’s performance where he played with batting average of .287 along with three home runs, 30 RBIs and .360 OBP, is also considered impressive.
Experts believe that this late confidence of Mauer will benefit the Twins as well as his own game in future seasons. The Twins’ automatically will gain an advantage from their catcher’s new commitment level. Last year, the Twins played relatively good, but still could not achieve what they expected. They lost too many games during the middle of the season and disappointed their fans.
However, this season, the Twins’ major players are planning and working hard to get good results next season. Now it will be interesting to see how the Twins’ will perform in the upcoming season as they battle it out against some tough opponents.
