Minnesota Twins continue their brilliance as they beat Cleveland Indians 7-5 in Game 2 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins continued their impressive winning streak as they outclassed the Cleveland Indians 7-5 at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio on Tuesday, August 7 in second game of their three match series.
It was Twins’ fifth win in their last six games and credit should be given to the Manager Ron Gardenhire for keeping his players focused over the last few days.
Right now, the Twins are occupying fourth spot on the American League Central Division standings with a win-loss record of 49-61. Ironically, it may not be possible for them to make it all the way to the playoffs but Gardenhire and his men can certainly
gain valuable confidence by bringing some consistency in their results.
Twins’ annihilated the Indians 14-3 in series opener and they continued to play aggressively in Game 2 to take a decisive 2-0 series lead. It will be interesting to see if Cleveland can fight back in the finale to avoid a humiliating series sweep at their
home ballpark.
Justin Morneau earned an RBI single to centre in the first inning to put Minnesota on the board but the Indians responded fiercely to take a 5-1 lead in the sixth inning. Ben Revere and Morneau kept the Twins in the game.
"When it's going bad, that's what happens," Acta said. "That's the way the ball bounces and it's not bouncing right in any way, shape or form."
"It's unacceptable performances," Indians’ All Star closer Perez said after giving up three runs in the ninth. "It's coming at the worst time for us. You've got to fight through it. The games aren't going away off the schedule. I'm not getting off the horse.
It stinks, but it could always get worse."
Morneau took complete advantage of Indians’ errors on the field to level the score 5-5 in the ninth. Second baseman Tsuyoshi Nishioka and shortstop Brian Dozier drove in crucial runs in the bottom of the ninth to give the Twins a memorable come back from
behind victory.
Starting pitcher Samuel Deduno gave up four runs in just four innings and reliever Tyler Robertson pitched two scoreless innings to pick up his first win of the year.
