Minnesota Twins crush Detroit Tigers 8-6 at Comerica Park – MLB Update

Minnesota Twins crushed Detroit Tigers 8-6 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Tuesday, July 3 in the second game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Manager Jim Leyland has been struggling to rectify the problems in his game plan since the start of the season. Relief pitcher Brayan Villarreal took his third loss of the season after he gave up a sacrifice fly to Ryan Doumit in the seventh inning.
Joe Mauer connected for a single run shot against Villarreal in the bottom of the ninth to clinch an impressive win for the Twins.
Ryan Raburn doubled to right in the second inning and Prince Fielder scored to level the score 1-1 for the Tigers. Brennan Boesch also put up a decent show as he singled to right-centre in the second to help the Tigers claim a crucial 3-1 lead.
Boesch homered to left-centre and Austin Jackson hit a two run home-run to centre in the fourth to tie the score and keep his side in the game.
Tigers’ starter Duane Below had a horrible time on the mound as he gave up five runs and five hits in just over two innings, which allowed the Twins to play their game freely. He had a below average performance against the Twins and the Tigers suffered because
of it.
"I just try to focus on the task at hand," Morneau said. "The reflection period is for later on tonight."
"That was a long night, but a huge win for this ballclub," Twins’ manager Ron Gardenhire said after a 3-hour, 26-minute game and 90-minute rain delay. "Our hitters came through when we needed them and our bullpen was great again."
"They're swinging the bats pretty good," Detroit manager Jim Leyland said. "They're like everyone else, they'll go as far as their pitching takes them."
It seems the Tigers are unsure of how to get over the .500 win percentage hump. Their loss to the Twins on Tuesday left them behind the hurdle once more and it will be interesting to see if they regroup themselves to avoid a humiliating series sweep against
Minnesota in front of their home crowd.
