Minnesota Twins crush Kansas City Royals 4-2 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins earned a rare series win at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri as they beat Kansas City Royals 4-2 on Wednesday, June 8 in the decisive finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Nick Blackburn had an excellent time on the mound as he helped the Twins finally have something to cheer about. Blackburn looked a bit out of sorts early on but he shook things up to pitch five solid inning, giving his team a much needed series victory.
Twins’ starting pitcher Blackburn, who came off the disabled list, showed great control over his fastball and curveballs, allowed just two runs and five hits on 92 pitches, which lowered his ERA to 7.75.
In some ways, the win will be of great importance for Minnesota, who will be feeling a lot more confident about themselves now. Twins’ hitter Justin Morneau played a crucial role in his team’s fourth win in just five games. He hit a go ahead run, two run
single with two out in the fifth.
"It does change your plan a little bit," Yost said. "There are always things that pop up over the year that you have to make an adjustment. Hopefully this won't be one of them, but we'll just have to wait and see what the extent of it and how bad it is.
You just have to deal with it and continue to get through it somehow. You don't want to do it especially with a guy like Paulino the way he's been throwing. We're talking about options, looking at different things if this requires some time off what we're
going to do."
Yuniesky Betancourt homered to left in the first inning to put the Royals 2-1 ahead but the Twins bounced back strongly to record an emphatic victory. Ryan Doumit had an RBI double to right to score the first run for his team and Jamey Carroll singled to
left centre in the seventh to give a two run lead to the Twins.
Kansas City’s starting pitcher Luis Mendoza allowed two runs and five hits to take his third loss of the season.
