Minnesota Twins crushed by Los Angeles Angels 4-0 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins were crushed by Los Angeles Angels 4-0 at the Angel Stadium of Anaheim, California on Tuesday, May 1 in second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
For the Angels, Torii Hunter put up a fine show in hitting department of the game. Hunter homered to left centre in the second to give his side a 1-0 advantage. Howie Kendrick doubled Angels’ lead to 2-0 in the same inning with a towering home run to the left. Albert Pujols and Chris Lannetta, Mike Trout and Hunter combined to force the Twins completely out of the game in the third.
Twins’ starter Francisco Liriano had a forgettable time on the mound as he took his fourth loss of the season. Allowing four runs and seven hits in just over five innings, the left hander seemed to have no answers to the onslaught against him.
"When I was with the Twins, he was throwing 96, 97 with a slider that was biting. He had a couple of injuries, but he's still bringing it up -- sometimes to 94 or 95," Hunter said. "But sometimes I think he leaves the ball up, and that's probably it. Other than the four runs we got, he settled down and kept the ball down and tried to minimize the damage."
Both Twins and the Angels have been struggling to execute their game plan since the start of the season and it was the Angels who managed to get the better of Minnesota on Tuesday’s evening to improve their record to 9-15.
Twins, on the other hand, have no one to blame except for themselves. In their 23 games this season, they have emerged victorious only six times, which explains the challenges they are facing right now.
Interim Manager Terry Ryan is convinced that the Twins is a better team than what their record suggests but the fans will be extremely disappointed with what they have seen from them. It will be interesting to see if Ryan and company can put up a better show in their next clash with the Angels to salvage some of the lost pride.
