Minnesota Twins defeat Boston Red Sox 8-4 – MLB Spring Training
Minnesota Twins defeated Boston Red Sox 8-4 at the JetBlue Park Fenway South in Lee County, Florida on Monday, March 19 in their Grapefruit League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
Red Sox’s starter Felix Doubront displayed some high quality pitching skills as he allowed just two runs and eight hits in just over four innings to keep his side in the hunt. Doubront, who is competing for the fifth starting spot Boston’s rotation had three
strikeouts and a walk. He will be looking to continue his impressive runt throughout the season.
"I thought there was a lot that was going on there with Felix," Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said. "One, he did have men on base and never gave in, kept throwing the same kind of pitches. Two, he was able to work from behind, when he got behind, pretty
well. And he was able to get ahead those other times really well, like 1-2. I stopped counting after like six one-ball-two-strike counts. But I didn't see the nastiness 1-2, that killer pitch, that stuff that differentiates a lot of guys. And I'd like to see
if he has it."
The Twins will be very pleased with the way they have bounce back in the last few games. After making a poor start to their Spring Training Campaign, the Twins were under a lot of criticism from some of the Nationals writers. However, the Twins have managed
to shut their critics by putting up a strong show in second half of this spring.
With eleven wins in nineteen games, the Twins are looking in great shape ahead of 2012 regular season. It will be interesting to see if the Twins can perform in similar fashion consistently to make it to the World Series this season.
The Red Sox will be disappointed after suffering only their fifth defeat. Bobby Valentine and his men have shown great determination and fighting spirit since the start of this spring. Although Spring Training is considered to be unimportant by most of the
MLB teams, it seems the Red Sox are taking their each game seriously.
