Minnesota Twins defeat Kansas City Royals 7-4 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins defeated Kansas City Royals 7-4 at the Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Sunday, April 29 in second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Twins adopted a very aggressive approach in a game that was played on an extremely fighting note. Joe Mauer provided them with the perfect start as he stole an infield single in the first to help his team score the first run. Josh Willingham played a key
role to let the Twins avoid their seventh straight loss this season. Willingham tripled to the deep right centre and Mauer scored.
Danny Valencia also displayed some high quality hitting skills singled to left and Willingham scored to give Minnesota 4-0 lead in the first. Kansas City fought back well in the following inning, thanks to Mike Moustakas, who homered and later added an RBI
double to keep his side in the game.
Eric Hosmer and Alex Gordon also made valuable contributions to add spice to the contest. However, the star of the show was Jason Marquis who tossed six solid innings and allowed just three hits.
"This is what this team's capable of," Marquis said. "Hopefully we all can get on the same page at the same time instead of offense doing well one game, pitching the next."
"It's been a crazy, great few days and I came in here today and didn't really know what to expect as far as my timing and stuff like that," Willingham said. "So I just tried to keep it simple and it worked out for us."
"We're still not clicking on all cylinders," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "Especially with runners in scoring position, but we're scoring enough runs."
Both Twins and the Royals have the worst 6-15 record in American League. The Royals will be disappointed to drop the game after showing great determination to clinch 7-6 win in the opening game. The decisive finale will be played on April 30 and it will
be interesting to see which one of these two teams can rise to the occasion to gain some sort of winning momentum.
