Minnesota Twins defeated by Boston Red Sox 1-5 – MLB news
Minnesota Twins were beaten by the Boston Red Sox 1-5 at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Sunday, May 19 in the finale of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
With their win the Red Sox improved their record to 27-17, an outstanding achievement considering the poor results they delivered last season. Manager John Farrell will be very happy with his team’s efforts but of course, he will be expecting his men to
continue their winning streak to consolidate Red Sox’s position at the top of American League East Division standings table.
Twins, on the other hand, will be disappointed with their effort in all three games of the series. Red Sox had to dig deep to prevail in Game 1 and they completely outclassed their AL East rivals in Game 2. Despite the home conditions working in their favour,
the Twins were unable to find winning ways. It will be interesting to see if the Twins can regroup and fight back to keep their playoff’s hopes alive.
Red Sox’s starting pitcher John Lackey produced a magical performance as he allowed just one hit and one run in six sharp innings, laying the foundations of an impressive win for his team. Relief pitcher Andrew Miller and Junichi Tazawa also made their presence
felt as they combined to pitch two perfect innings of relief.
“It's baseball, man,” Trevor Plouffe said. “These games, they happen throughout the season and it's something you've got to deal with.”
“Crisp. He was powerful,” Red Sox manager John Farrell said. “Overall just a solid performance for him.”
“That's built in,” he said. “Even with a three-hour rain delay, they're rarin' to go. Keeping this group focused, I'm not going to say is not an issue, but the game is clearly a priority to them.”
“I wanted to go at least another inning. I was definitely frustrated a little bit not to keep going. But winning the game is all that really matters,” said Lackey.
For the Twins, starter Pedro Hernandez paid the ultimate price for his errors on the mound, allowing three runs on nine hits in just over four innings. Hernandez had an ordinary time on the mound last year as well and it will be exciting to see if he can
learn from his mistakes to turn things around this year.
Will Middlebrooks, was by far, the most successful hitter for the Red Sox in 2012 and it seems that he is carried over his heroic form into this season as well. The outfielder smacked a solo home run to right centre in the second inning to put his side
on the board. Dustin Pedroia also made his presence felt with a two run home run to in the bottom of the ninth.
