Minnesota Twins defeated by Chicago White Sox 8-11 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins were defeated by Chicago White Sox 8-11 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Thursday, May 24 in the decisive finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
In a game that was played on a very fighting note, both teams displayed some top quality baseball skills but it was the White Sox who emerged victorious at the end to improve their record to 23-22.
Showing great determination, fighting spirit and courage, Chicago came back from behind to stun their rivals. It will be interesting to see if the White Sox can continue their dominant form to put them in a commanding position before the All Star Break.
Jamey Carroll had a decent time on the plate as he singled to right in the third to level score 1-1 for the Twins. After the White Sox stacked up a 4-1 lead in the third, James Mauer homered to centre in the fifth to bring Minnesota back into the contest. Briand Dozier singled to centre to help the Twins come back from behind and take 5-4 lead.
For the White Sox, Alejandro De Aza, Paul Konerko and Alex Rios displayed some top quality hitting skills to cap a six run sixth inning.
"It's one night, but just the way they're swinging it, you could see it sort of coming over the weekend," manager Robin Ventura said. "Just the intensity and the quality of at-bats that we were having, that's the thing that keeps it going is everyone continues to do that and grind out at-bats. That's what they were doing tonight. They were late in the counts and still putting on good swings."
"I was trying to get a fly ball because it was bases loaded," De Aza said. "And the fly ball got big, you know."
Terry Ryan and company will be disappointed to lose the series after they put up a brilliant show in the opener to take 1-0 lead. The offence failed miserably in second game for the Twins and the White Sox took complete advantage to shutout their opponents 6-0 and level series at 1-1.
