Minnesota Twins down Chicago White Sox 8-4 at the target Field - MLB News
Minnesota Twins downed the Chicago White Sox 8-4 to sweep the home series on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at the Target Field.
The Twins were aggressive from the word go and were helped by no less than four home-runs in the game. Oswaldo Arcia went long in the second innings to put the Twins on the scoreboard. Soon it was Brian Dozier who got a two-run
home-run to help the cause of his team, as they went up by 3-0 before the innings concluded.
A throwing error by the Twins allowed the first run for the White Sox in the fourth as Jeff Keppinger made it home. The Twins were able to add two more in the bottom of the fourth as Clete Thomas and Eduardo Escobar hit back to
back home-runs.
The White Sox were able to get back to back home-runs in the top of the sixth but they never really threatened to run away from the lead. Although the Twins did not hit any more home-runs, a couple of runs in the bottom of the
sixth put them beyond the reach of the Chicago ballclub.
Brian Dozier was pleased with how the whole batting unit performed and was also happy with his own performance in the ballgame.
"It always helps when everyone in the lineup is hitting, 1 through 9," Dozier said. "Everything is flowing really well right now. I'm not missing balls over the plate."
Scott Diamond, the starting pitcher for the Twins, was satisfied with his own performance even though the numbers weren’t very pretty. He surrendered four runs, three of which were earned in seven hits in just a little over five
innings. Scott now has a 5-6 win-loss record this season.
"Overall, I'm pretty happy with the way it went," Diamond said. "The numbers don't look the best, but I'm happy with how I progressed through the game."
It was a day when both teams committed errors with the Twins erring once while the White Sox made two on the field.
Ron Gardenhire, the manager of the Twins was quite happy about the win and knows that new challenges lie ahead for the team on the road. They will now take on the Cleveland Indians and the Miami Marlins on their road trip.
"It was a good sweep and a good home stand," Gardenhire said. "Now we have to go on the road to Cleveland, another very good team, and then Miami. Our goal was to come home and win, and we had a pretty decent home stand."
The current form is certainly going to help the Twins in moving forward in this season. They have shown a good home performance and a repeat on the road can help them in getting over the .500 mark for the first time in this season.
