Minnesota Twins eased past New York Yankees 7-3 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins eased past New York Yankees 7-3 at the Yankee Stadium in New York, NY on Monday, April 16 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball.
Justin Morneau and Carl Pavano played a key role as the Twins dominated the Yankees to restore some of the lost pride. Pavano was absolutely brilliant through the seventh inning, helping the Twins secure a much needed victory.
Morneau also made a valuable contribution with his bat, hitting a home run for the Twins and Joe Mauer had two doubles on three hits to lead the Twins to their just sixth victory in 34 season games in the Bronx.
"It wasn't about coming in here and putting everything behind me. Everything I went through is behind me," he said. "It was coming in here and getting this team on track."
"It's a new season," Twins’ Manager Ron Gardenhire said. "We're 1-0 at Yankee Stadium."
Yankees’ Freddy Garcia had an ordinary time on the mound, giving up nine hits and five runs. The starter had another disappointing performance after his five wild pitch effort in his previous outing.
"They have some pretty good hitters now, you got to make good pitches to get those guys out," Garcia said.
The win will be of great importance for the Twins who have been struggling to find their form since the start of the regular season. They had similar problems during the Spring Training Session but they way they conducted themselves on Monday evening is
a clear indication of what other American League teams can expect to face throughout this season.
Of course, the Twins have enough firepower in their squad and it will be exciting to see if they can bring any consistency in their game play over the next few weeks.
With just 3 wins in their ten regular season games this year, the Twins still have a lot to prove to their critics and fans. While making it to the World Series final may not be an easy job for them, they can certainly make themselves proud be reaching the
playoffs.
