Minnesota Twins edge Cincinnati Reds 5-4 – MLB Recap
Cincinnati Reds’ poor run continuous as they lost yet another game 5-4 on Friday, June 22 against the Minnesota Twins in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter at Great American Ball Park in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
The Reds’ played under pressure throughout the game and lost in the end with narrow margin.
Homer Bailey gave the Twins’ enough confidence to oust them with style. He was hammered with five runs on eight hits as well as four earned runs. He was also smashed for a home run as his ERA rose to 4.20.
On the other hand, the Twins starter Nick Blackburn received only four runs on five hits. He struck out two batters and stood tall against the Reds’ batting offence.
“Fun ballgame, First time we've been here. Very exciting atmosphere, except for the guy wanting to feed me a hot dog. That wasn't great. He just came down in the stands, trying to hand me a hot dog. I think he thinks I'm too big. It was a nice gesture. Wished
I could have taken it." Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said.
Glen Perkins tossed all important last inning of the game and went scoreless on two hits as his ERA remained consistent at 2.93.
“Sometimes, you win ugly, I made the pitches when I had to. My goal is to always strike them out anyway. There's no need to try and get a quick out if you're trying to face three guys for 15 pitches," Perkins said.
From start of the game, both teams showed their offensive prowess. Reds went early into lead as they scored two quick runs in the first inning.
The Twins’ on the other hand, read the situation well and decreased the two runs’ lead by adding one in the bottom second.
Twins not only decreased the Reds’ lead, but they also went ahead with one run as they made two quick runs in later two consecutive innings.
From there onwards, the Twins kept the Reds’ under pressure and never allowed them any chance to score easily as they won the game with much delight.
