Minnesota Twins edge Kansas City Royals 2-1 – MLB Recap
The Minnesota Twins edged past the Kansas City Royals 2-1 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Friday, July 20 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
Twins played better than the Royals and earned a great victory. They played combined and slowly reached a tremendous victory.
Both teams are struggling at the moment and for this reason, this game’s importance was significant. The second half of the season has started, but Twins and the Royals have not succeeded to show their natural game until their own series started.
Now it’s looking quite obvious that the Twins, with this particular win, possess more energy and potential will be trying for a post-season spot despite their poor first half performance.
Also in Friday’s game, the Twins showed their true offensive style. They did not give any chance to the Royals’ batting line-up to score easily. Instead they kept them under pressure and eventually won the game in style.
The entire Twins’ roster played wonderfully and handed the Royals a humiliating defeat.
Twins’ starter Nick Blackburn played wonderfully and earned decent victory in the end. He pitched 6.2 innings and received only one run and one earned run on seven hits.
Blackburn said, "I just finally put it all together, I was missing a lot of spots, but with movement as opposed to just floating it in there. One mistake hurt me tonight. Other than that I was pretty pleased with it.”
Later Twins’ manager Ron Gardenhire said, "That was a great performance. It was desperately needed by him, for him. He made it look effortless. It's something he's been working on. He said he was going to stay light on his front side let the ball come out
of his hand. He did it with all of his pitches -- good changeup, good sinker and a good slider."
On the other hand, the Royals from the start of the game did not look comfortable in the field and seemed to be low in confidence. They just could not capitalise on their strengths and lost the game.
The Twins will be happy with their performance as they managed to get their offence started and increased their confidence in the line-up.
