Minnesota Twins edge Texas Rangers 6-5 in series finale – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins edged the Texas Rangers 6-5 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas on Sunday, August 26 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Twins were annihilated in first three games and credit should be given to them for the way they handled pressure situations on Sunday evening. Showing great composure, determination and fighting abilities, Ron Gardenhire and his men managed to secure a narrow
6-5 win to avoid a humiliating series defeat.
Currently, Twins are at the bottom of the American League Central Division standings and it will not be wrong to say that they are out of the playoff race. It will be interesting to see if they can give their fans something to cheer about in these closing
stages of the season.
"We finally got one to go our way," Ben Revere said. "We're a good enough team that we should be able to compete with these guys.”
"We can score some runs," Gardenhire said. "We just need an opportunity to stay in games."
Starting pitcher Cole De Vries used his fastballs effectively to make quick work of Rangers’ batting line-up. Overall, he gave up just two runs and three runs in five solid innings for his third win of the season.
"I was pretty much 100 percent sure that it wasn't going to happen because our bullpen has just been killed the past couple of days," said De Vries. "So I had to go out there and eat up as many innings as I could."
"I'm happy to have a performance like that against a powerful offense," De Vries said.
Relief pitcher Jeff Gray was hit hard as he allowed three runs in just 0.1 innings. He will be very disappointed with his effort. Rangers’ starter Michael Kirkman paid the price for his errors on the mound, giving up 10 hits and six runs in just five innings
to take his 10th loss of the year.
Justin Morneau and Josh Willingham made the most scoring opportunities early on. Koe Mauer and Trevor Plouffe also drove in crucial runs to lift Minnesota to a much needed victory.
