Minnesota Twins edge Toronto Blue Jays 4-3 in a thriller– MLB Update
Minnesota Twins edged Toronto Blue Jays 4-3 at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Sunday, May 13 in the finale of their four games series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Brian Dozier provided the Twins with an impressive start as he homered to the left in the third inning. Josh Willingham once again made a serious impact, helping his team take 2-0 lead in the fifth.
Minnesota continued to attack their rivals and Ryan Doumit, Dozier and Willingham combined to make a wonderful play to take make the score 4-0. Toronto fought back well in closing stages of the match but they were unable to stop the Twins from earning a
well deserved victory. For Toronto, Eric Thames and Yunel Escobar reduced the deficit to 3-4 in the eighth but the effort did not prove to be enough.
"I was getting hit hard, but our defense came up big for me," Starting pitcher Scott Diamond said in a post game interview. "I'm not a strikeout guy, so I just want them to keep hitting the ball in play and we were able to get some outs."
"Taking a couple of deep breaths on the mound has got me back to settling down," he further added. "This year it's more about getting back, getting wins, and helping this team out in whatever way I could."
Twins will be delighted to earn their tenth win of the season. They will also take a lot of confidence from levelling series in the decisive finale on Sunday evening.
The Blue Jays made an absolutely great start to the series as they secured a comfortable 6-2 win in the opening game but Minnesota fought back brilliantly in the following game, handling their nerves to win a thriller 7-6.
Toronto took the lead again with a strong showing in the third game and with momentum on their side; it seemed they will send the Twins to another humiliating series defeat. However, the Twins lifted their spirits just at the right time and they surprised
the Blue Jays with as strong performances in the final game.
