Minnesota Twins edge past Boston Red Sox 6-4 – MLB Recap
Minnesota Twins edge past the Boston Red Sox 6-4 in the third game of their four-match regular series encounter on Saturday, August 4 at Fenway Park in Boston.
Twins played tremendously as one unit. They never showed any loop-holes in their game and eventually rattled the Red Sox with a two-run deficit.
"I think I started laughing in the dugout, there's not too many guys that can take that pitch, but he's won a lot of batting titles," Twins' manager Ron Gardenhire said.
Twins’ entire roster played sensibly and remained aggressive in the field. They held their opponents with great force and gave a tough time in all areas of play.
Twins' batting line-up as well as pitching prowess played combined and supported each other in crucial stages of play. They showed their brilliance and kept the Red Sox under pressure and eventually won the game with style.
On the other hand, the Red Sox were playing at their home field but due to extra pressure of getting a win against the Twins, they lost again with bitter humiliation. This was their third straight defeat against the Twins and looking at their current form, many experts are describing the Minnesota side as clear favourites when both these teams will meet again on Sunday for the final matchup of their four-game series.
"We had one great job by Aceves in the eighth and then leakage in the ninth, Andrew Miller has just been terrific against left-handers, Just flying open a little too much tonight," Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said.
Overall the game was played at a high pace but the Red Sox pitchers did not take things seriously and were hammered with big hits. They allowed total six runs which eventually proved lethal as their batters were never able to score and lost in the end.
"They're all devastating now, You get this late in the season and you look at the standings and we're not really sitting in a great position. Wild card, there's a lot of teams. We can't afford to lose games like that," Boston's Nick Punto said.
Alfredo Aceves pitched only 1.2 innings spell and allowed four runs and four earned runs on four hits as his ERA rose to 4.37 and proved one of the losing factors for the Red Sox.
