Minnesota Twins edge past New York Yankees 5-4 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins showed they are capable of beating any team in Major League Baseball as they edged past the New York Yankees 5-4 at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Tuesday, September 25 in second game of their three match series.
Manager Ron Gardenhire will be extremely happy with what he saw from his men on Tuesday evening. Showing determination and fighting abilities, the Twins claimed an emphatic win to keep the series alive.
Although Minnesota Twins are out of the playoffs race, they have an opportunity to cheer up their fans in these closing stages of the season. It will be interesting to see if Gardenhire and company can come up with a similar performance in the finale to
surprise the inform Yankees.
Twins’ starting pitcher Esmerling Vasquez played a big part in deciding the outcome of the clash as he gave up just two runs on seven hits in six solid innings while striking-out five batters. Relief pitcher Casey Fien, Jared Burton and Glen Perkins combined
to give two runs in three sharp innings to ensure that the Twins reach home safely.
“Our guys are rising to the occasion,” Twins’ manager Ron Gardenhire told reporters in a post game interview. “If you can’t get up for (the Yankees), you can’t get up for anything.”
“He hit two balls pretty decent today. He hit the ball to right-center, he grounded out hard to short,” Joe Girardi said of Rodriguez who finished the game 0-for-4 with two strike-outs. “It’s just what you go through as a hitter. You’re not going to be perfect
every day. If they were, they’d hit .400 or .500 during the course of the season.”
Nick Swisher homered to right in the fourth inning to break the deadlock and put Yankees on the board. Russell Martin also had a great time on the plate as he smacked a solo home-run in the seventh. For the Twins, Chris Parmelee doubled to left in the fourth.
Ryan Doumit, Denard Span and Joe Mauer drove in crucial runs to help Twins take a decisive 5-3 lead in the seventh.
The Twins will be confident from their performance as they managed to beat the Yankees and build up some momentum.
