Minnesota Twins first baseman Justin Morneau still on DL – MLB News
The Minnesota Twins first baseman Justin Morneau is still not recovered from his late injury and going back to disabled list to avoid any further damage.
Morneau said on Saturday, “The thought is it's better to get it right now rather than have it drag on through the summer and not be as effective or productive as I can be, (The goal is) to get it right now and be able to play the rest of the year healthy.”
Brian Dozier is coming as replacement for Morneau as he is being called into the roster to provide a slight cushion in his absence.
The team management announced officially on Saturday and told the media about the developments which are happening at the moment.
Dozier, who is a talented player and plays for the Twins farm - Minor League team Class AAA Rochester, has also won 2011 Minnesota Twins’ Minor League player of the year award, is considered one of the few Twins prospects which will be performing a key role for their organization in near future.
He was currently playing well in the Red Wings and carrying .273 along with one home run and 11 RBIs.
In the meanwhile, the Twins’ veteran Morneau is still feeling tenderness in his wrist and needs some more rest before getting back with full swing.
However, he is practicing hard and recently said, "It wasn't good, It felt the same way it did the other day. A little more time and hopefully that will calm down and get to where I can swing normally and be productive - not just be out there swinging, but swinging to make a difference in the game."
The team doctors are still not sure over Morneau’s return, but the way he is training and practicing hard in private sessions is a healthy sign for the Twins who are struggling at the moment in the ongoing Major League Baseball season.
Morneau before going onto disabled-list was performing quite wonderfully with hitting average of .230 along with four home-runs, nine RBIs and .313 OBP. His overall stats also make him a star which is consistent at hitting .280 along with 189 homers, 718 RBIs and .352 OBP.
