Minnesota Twins grind Baltimore Orioles 5-0 – MLB Spring Training

Minnesota Twins continued their impressive run as they crushed Baltimore Orioles 5-0 at the Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, Florida on Tuesday, March 27 in their Grapefruit League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.

Orioles’ starter Tsuyoshi Wada had a forgettable time on the mound as he allowed four runs and four hits in three innings. The left hander, who is competing for the fifth starting spot, will be hoping to bounce back strongly in his next spring game.

"It didn't go that well. I'm not satisfied," Wada said. "I wasn't able to throw correctly with my normal form today. The first-pitch strike with the fastball I pitched was hit easily. I have to work on it more."

"I just want him to attack the rest of his time down here and hopefully get to five or six innings, and that leaves our options to us," manager Buck Showalter said. "Right now, we're looking at him as a starter, and I don't want him thinking anything else."

The Twins gave the Orioles a taste of what they can expect to face in the upcoming regular season. Having improved their spring win-loss record 14-12, the Twins are looking in confident mood. Dominating the Orioles in almost all aspects of the game, the
Twins played a very aggressive brand of baseball to pressurise their rivals.

Twins’ pitchers played a key role in deciding the outcome of the game as they did not allow Baltimore’s batters to score a single run in a game that proved to be completely one sided. The batters also made the most of available opportunities to post a decent
total on the board.

With six titles in last ten years, the Twins have been the most dominant force in the American League Central Division for the last decade. However, they can expect to face a tough competition from Detroit Tigers this season. Tigers, who won the American
League title in 2011, are the favourites to win the World Series finals. It will be interesting to see if the Twins can defy the odds to make it to the World Series.
