Minnesota Twins hammer Cleveland Indians 11-0 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins put up a brilliant show at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota as they hammered the Cleveland Indians 11-0 on Friday, July 27 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Justin Morneau homered to right in the first inning to put the Twins 3-0 ahead. Ben Revere reached on infield single to second and Denard Span reached third base to make the score 4-0 in the fourth inning.
Mauer singled to right and Josh Willingham homered to left-centre in the fourth to extend Twins’ lead to 8-0. Mauer and Willingham had RBI’s in the sixth and Ryan Doumit singled to centre to take the lead beyond Indians’ reach.
Starting pitcher Scott Diamond grabbed his ninth win of the season, pitching a complete game. Overall, he gave up just three hits with six strike-outs to lower his ERA to 2.88.
"I'm just trying to be consistent," Diamond said with a smile on his face. "My approach right now is to be as simple as I can be, and because of that I've been consistent."
"At that point, it was just trying to get us a win," He further added. "I just tried to keep going, go as deep as I could."
"We couldn't do anything against him," Cleveland manager Manny Acta said in a post game interview. "One more example that every day is a new day in baseball. Theres no such thing as momentum."
Twins’ offence, once again, showed just what it is capable of as they stacked up a huge total on the board. The pitching attack also produced a masterful performance, not allowing Indians to score even a single run.
Credit should be given Manager Ron Gardenhire for getting his tactics spot on as the Twins took 1-0 lead in the series.
Throughout this season, Minnesota has shown glimpses of brilliance but for some weird reason, they have struggled to give results on regular basis. It will be interesting to see if Gardenhire and company can outclass the Indians in Game 2 to build up some
much needed confidence.
