Minnesota Twins humiliate Los Angeles Angels 11-4 to tie series 1-all – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins crushed the Los Angeles Angels 11-4 in the second outing of the three-game series at Angel Stadium of Anaheim, California on Wednesday, August 3 to tie the series 1-all.
Twins completely outclassed the Angels with their dazzling hitting. Twins’ started their stint in the first inning with one run, then added two more in the second, one in the fourth, four in the fifth, one in the seventh and last two in the ninth inning.
Delmon Young and Michael Cuddyer each homered twice to add their important contribution in the game. Young touched his first homer in the second and second in the fourth inning, both against the Angels’ starter Joel Pineiro. After Young’s bat stopped, Cuddyer
came into action with his ballistic hit to record his first homer in the fifth and then hammered a second one in the ninth inning.
Right-fielder Jason Kubel also launched a huge 396-feet long one-run homer in the seventh inning. Joe Mauer and Danny Valencia were the two other batters who added an RBI to add to the eleven runs lead.
"You know he's a sinkerballer, and what sinkerballers do is try to throw the ball down in the zone and get you to roll over the ball," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "And if you chase and fall into the trap, that's his goal."
Angels were not in good shape tonight as they managed to score their runs in a fourth inning. Besides this inning, they remained in struggling condition throughout the game against the Twins’ strong reliever Anthony Swarzak. In the fourth, however Peter
Bourjos, Torii Hunter and Alberto Callaspo joined to add four runs.
Scott Baker worked only three innings allowed four runs on five hits and walked one batter. His reliever Anthony Swarzak was the main source of trouble for the Angels, as he held them to just one-hit over his five innings and snatched his third win of the
season. He tossed 46 strikes in his 64 pitches long spell.
Glen Perkins followed the same path and threw a no-hitter ninth to cement the Twins’ 51st win in 2011 regular season.
It was a nightmare day for Pineiro, who went for seven runs and one walk over just four innings. He also received two huge blows from Young for homers, which contributed in his sixth loss of the season. Hisanori Takahashi could not break the spell and received
two runs on three hits over two innings.
Fernando Rodney was the only pitcher from the Angels who did not allow a run. Closer Horacio Ramirez was also struck for two runs over four innings.
