Minnesota Twins humiliated by Chicago White Sox 2-8 in series finale – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins were humiliated by the Chicago White Sox 2-8 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Wednesday, July 25 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
With their win against the Twins, the White Sox improved their record to 53-45 and they are now tied for the first place on American League Central Division with Detroit Tigers. In some ways, it was an extremely important series win for the White Sox, who
suffered a sweep against the Tigers in their previous series.
"You get that feeling back," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "It's one thing to go through a tough stretch and start winning games again, expecting that. Part of this three-game series, you get back, the guys swinging the bats pretty good and guys
pitching fairly well."
It will be interesting to see if they can continue their excellent work over the next couple of months to make it the playoffs with ease.
Minnesota had another poor day on the field and they ended up paying the ultimate price for their unforced errors. The offence was unable to take advantage of some easy scoring opportunities whereas the pitching attack leaked runs at crucial stages of the
game.
"Just a terrible series by us," Twins’ manager Ron Gardenhire said in a post game interview. "But a very good series by the other team. They whacked it, and they pounded us -- scored a lot of runs, and we got dominated here."
Manager Ron Gardenhire will be expecting the Twins to learn from their mistakes and bounce back strongly in their next series against Cleveland Indians
Josh Willingham had an RBI single in the first inning and Justin Morneau doubled to deep-right in the fourth inning. For Chicago, Kevin Youkilis, Paul Konerko and Alex Rios came up with scoring shots whenever they were required.
Twins’ starting pitcher Nick Blackburn took his fourth loss of the season after he gave up ten hits and eight runs in just over four innings. His poor outing on Wednesday evening ballooned his ERA to 7.99.
