Minnesota Twins humiliated by Chicago White Sox 2-9 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins were crushed by the Chicago White Sox 2-9 at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Sunday, September 16 in the finale of their three match series.
Manager Robin Ventura will be extremely pleased with what he saw from the White Sox in a crucial American League Central Division series. Chicago shut-out their opponents 6-0 in series opener and they continued the good work in Game 2.
Executing their game plan to perfection in the finale, the White Sox completed a memorable series sweep on Sunday to consolidate their position at the top of AL Central Division standings. It will be interesting to see if Ventura and company can end the
season in a similar fashion to make it to the playoffs.
Starting pitcher Jake Peavy played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash as he gave up just four hits and two runs in a high scoring game. Striking-out six batters, Peavy grabbed his 11th win of the season.
"It's going to be a game with a lot of emotion," Peavy said. "We got our hands full, but at the same time we think we can get it done."
"They're going to be right there, as they are right now," Twins’ manager Ron Gardenhire said about the White Sox. "That's a very good baseball team built with a good pitching staff. There are a lot of arms that come out of that pen throwing really hard and
they have some starters that have been there and done it."
His counterpart from the Twins, Scott Diamond looked completely out of sorts as he allowed seven hits and six runs in just over five innings to take his eighth loss of the year. Relief pitcher Anthony Swarzak was also hit hard, conceding three runs in just
0.1 inning.
Joe Mauer homered to left centre in the first inning to give Twins a perfect start but the White Sox bounced back strongly to claim a 3-1 lead. Alexi Casilla doubled to left in the fifth to keep Twins in the game but the White Sox were too hot to handle
on Sunday as they scored six runs in the sixth to humiliate their opponents.
