Minnesota Twins humiliated by Detroit Tigers 0-8 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins were humiliated by the Detroit Tigers 0-8 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Saturday, September 22 in the opening game of their three match series.
The batting line-up looked in top form on Saturday evening as Tigers stacked up a huge total on the board. Manager Jim Leyland will be pleased to see his team’s composure at this vital stage of the season.
With their much needed win, Leyland and company also reduced the gap between themselves and the Chicago White Sox to just one game at the top of American League Central Division standings table.
Leyland will be expecting the Tigers to continue their good work over the next week to make it to the playoffs.
"That's what that team does, they figure out a way to put runs on the board -- like a freight train," Gardenhire said. "Couldn't get another guy warmed up fast enough."
Twins, on the other hand, will be disgusted with their effort. Manager Ron Gardenhire will be expecting his men to fight back in Game 2 to keep the series live.
Starting pitcher Samuel Deduno had a forgettable outing as he allowed seven runs on seven hits to take his fifth loss of the season. His poor effort also raised his ERA to 4.54. Surely, he will be looking to put things back on the right track on his next
appearance.
"Everything I was throwing, they were hitting," Deduno said in a post game interview.
His counterpart from Detroit, Doug Fister had one of the best outings of his career as he pitched nine scoreless innings to claim his 10th win of the season. Striking-out seven batters, he used his fastballs and sliders to great effect.
"It was much appreciated and an honor for Skip to let me go back out there and trust me," Fister said.
Tigers’ third baseman Miguel Cabrera continued his amazing hitting form as he smacked a mighty solo home-run. Delmon Young also played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash with a three run home-run to left in the third.
The Tigers will definitely be happy with their tremendous performance as they managed to dominate the Twins.
