Minnesota Twins humiliated by Pittsburgh Pirates 2-7 at PNC Park – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins were humiliated by Pittsburgh Pirates 2-7 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, June 19 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Credit must be given to Pirates’ Manager Clint Hurdle for managing his resources extremely effectively this season. The Pirates have not been able to make it to the playoffs for than a decade now.
They went over the .500 win percentage mark for the first time in twelve years last season. it seems the team is feeling very optimistic about their situation these days.
Right now, the Pirates are placed second on National League Central Division with a decent 35-31 record and it will be interesting to see if they maintain their excellent form over the next couple of months to make it to the post season.
"Something doesn't feel completely right after that (hot) start and I think it's just a little bit of work in the (bullpen)," Diamond said. "I've got to refine the curveball a little bit, too. It just wasn't coming out right."
The Twins, on other hand, have no one to blame except for themselves. Ron Gardenhire and company have disappointed their fans big time since the start of the season.
Considering their 26-40 record, it may not be possible for them to make it to the playoffs this season but they can certainly make themselves proud by giving consistent results.
"We didn't have a lot of chances," Minnesota manager Ron Gardenhire said. "We had a couple, but Correia made his pitches when he had to."
"My slider was pretty good, I think," Pirates’ starting pitcher Kevin Correia said. "All my stuff was pretty decent, so I was able to keep them off balance."
Denard Span hit a mighty two run home run in the seventh inning. Starting pitcher Scott Diamond took his third loss of the season as he gave up three runs in just over five innings.
Andrew McCutchen hit his 12th home run of the season and Josh Harrison also homered in a convincing victory for the Pirates.
