Minnesota Twins look confident of their pitching unit this season - MLB News
The Minnesota Twins have had their fair share of pitching troubles last season and it took them a while before they were able to assemble their opening rotation for the 2013 season. However, the issues now seem to be a matter of the past as the team has
made a decent start to their campaign this season and have shown some good pitching form indeed.
The team currently has a 9-8 winning record and appears to have gained at least some of its lost form.
The manager for the Twins, Ron Gardenhire says that last year the team struggled a lot due to injuries to the pitchers there was a mini crisis in the team on that front.
"It's just a belief that you have a chance when your starting pitcher takes the mound," Gardenhire said. "Last year, we had so many injuries, and honestly the first few weeks we didn't even know who was starting and that wasn't easy. It was a tough situation.”
The manager also said that the uncertainty had gone through the whole clubhouse. However, the situation this year is better and there is more certainty amongst the ranks of the team.
He added, “And it goes through the clubhouse because of uncertainty and not knowing who is pitching. So it happens and it creeps into your mind. But this year, we know who will be taking the ball. And we're healthier."
The team will be taking Texas Rangers which is one of the stronger teams in the Major League and currently have a 13-7 record.
Vance Worley, who came to the Twins from the Philadelphia Phillies as a part of a trade is feeling better after he had a good outing against the Chicago White Sox. He appears to be confident that he can perform better.
"I was able to command both sides of the plate today, and everything broke the way I wanted it to," Worley said.
Vance currently has a 0-2 win-loss record this season with a whooping 7.11 ERA in four games, all of which he stared as an opening pitcher. The main reason behind the high numbers is his game on April 12 against the New York Mets which only lasted a single
innings.
Last year, it was close to the middle of May when the Twins recorded their ninth win. They are performing much better and one hopes that they will be able to continue the good work further into the season.
