Minnesota Twins lose to Boston Red Sox 5-1 at Target Field – MLB news
Minnesota Twins lost to the Boston Red Sox 5-1 on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at the Target Field. The loss has hurt the Twins who have been unable to perform well at the home field recently.
Minnesota Twins’s manager Ron Gardenhire is rightly upset at the result feeling that they missed a good opportunity at home.
“This is where we're supposed to win ballgames,” Gardenhire said.
The manager felt that even though the Red Sox are a strong outfit, his team should have done better. Ron said that the Twins had played well at the Fenway Park. There were opportunities that were missed and this is what hurt the home team the most.
“Boston is playing well, but we played well at their ballpark. We know they're a very good team that can swing the bat and they came in here and beat the ball around pretty good. But we had our opportunities here at home to drive in runs and we didn't get
it done. You can't come home and lose like we have here,” Gardenhire said.
There was very little offensive production from the Twins. They just got a single run out of five hits in the fifth innings. Joe Mauer, who was on a 15 game hitting streak entering into the game, too was also unable to connect and went 0-for-4 in the ballgame.
Pitcher Pedro Hernandez was disappointed by his performance so far against the Red Sox whom he has faced on three different occasions and has yet to get the better of them.
“It's frustrating,” said Hernandez. “I've faced this team three times and they've beat me three times.”
With the loss, Pedro now has a 2-1 record this season with 5.85 ERA.
The Twins had a chance to make a comeback in the bottom of the ninth when they had two runners on base with no out but were unable to connect afterwards.
This is the first time that the Twins have fallen behind the .500 mark by a distance of four games in 2013. They have had a mixed season but they need to turn it around in a hurry to have a better chance of improving upon their previous season’s performance.
