Minnesota Twins lose to Boston Red Sox 5-6 in eleven innings thriller at Fenway Park - MLB Update

Minnesota Twins narrowly lost to the Boston Red Sox 5-6 at the Fenway Park on Monday, May 6, 2013 in a game that went all the way to the 11th innings. The game was in balance all the way and the hosts were just able to come out on top at the end
of the day outscoring the Twins in the bottom of the 11th inning.
Fortunes kept on swinging and it was never clear who will eventually win. The Twins took the early lead in the first when they scored two runs. The lead was further cemented in the fourth inning with an RBI double by Aaron Hicks. The Red Sox got on the scoreboard
in the bottom of the fourth.
Twins were able to score once in the fifth as well but the Red Sox were able to score a single run in all innings from fourth to the eighth.
Minnesota managed to make an important comeback in the top of the ninth and was able to score the equalising run with the help of Brian Dozier’s home-run.
The game came to an end in the 11th when Stephen Drew scored an RBI double to clinch the game for his team. It was a good effort from both sides though the Red Sox could have scored more with 17 hits in the ballgame.
Ron Gardenhire, the manager for the Twins believed that it was a very close game. It was a game that hung in balance and any team could come up with a clear lead.
"We had a lead and they had a couple big home runs on us," Gardenhire said. "We got a couple balls up and Drew got one off of Fien and then Pedroia had a heck of an at-bat and he got one. And we come back and tie it up and it goes from there.”
Ron felt that the Twins just fell short at the end. The Red Sox were able to get the big hit when it mattered the most. He saw the defeat as a tough one as the team had done everything it could.
"We had some opportunities and they had some, but they got the big hit at the end," Gardenhire said. "It was a tough one for us. We threw just about everything we had at them."
Minnesota Twins currently have a 13-15 record and are fourth in the American League Central, five games behind leaders Detroit Tigers.
These are early days and the team can certainly show more fights like this in their upcoming series. Should they continue to work hard, there is no reason why they should not be able to improve upon their numbers as the season progresses.
