Minnesota Twins lose to Chicago White Sox 2-6 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins were humiliated by the Chicago White Sox 2-6 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Wednesday, September 5 in the finale of their three match series.
Manager Ron Gardenhire will be extremely disappointed with his team’s effort on Wednesday evening. After hammering the White Sox 18-9 in Game 2 of the series, the Twins were looking to continue the good work in the finale to build on some much needed confidence
but that did not turn out to be the case.
White Sox used their home conditions superbly to outplay their opponents in almost all departments of the game. Right fielder Alex Rios in particular played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash as he hit a grand slam in the first inning to put
Twins under immense pressure.
"I just got a few good pitches and I connected well so that's all you can hope," Rios said. "Hit the ball hard and see what happens."
"Take Rios out of the game and we're still playing, but you can't take him out because he took us out," Twins’ manager Ron Gardenhire quipped.
With momentum on their side, the White Sox continued to play aggressively. Rios smacked his second home-run in the sixth inning to take the lead beyond Twins’ reach.
Minnesota’s starting pitcher P.J. Walters paid the ultimate price for his errors on the mound as he gave up six runs on five hits in just five innings to take his third loss of the season.
"I wasn't missing by a whole lot, but enough to be balls," Walters said. "That's the big part of the game -- not so much the homers, but the three walks. I don't walk those three guys ... maybe it plays it out a little different."
Relief pitchers Alex Burnett, Brian Duensing and Jared Burton combined to pitch three scoreless innings for the Twins but Chicago was too hot to handle on Wednesday as they held on to their four run lead comfortably to secure a much needed series victory.
Eduardo Escobar and Matt Carson drove in runs for the Twins.
