Minnesota Twins lose to Cleveland Indians 2-6 in series finale – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins lost to the Cleveland Indians 2-6 at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio on Wednesday, August 8 in the finale of their three match series.
Cleveland was humiliated in first two games of the series and credit should be given to them for coming out of slump in a forceful fashion on Wednesday. With their win, the Indians avoided an embarrassing sweep at their home ballpark and also improved to
51-60.
With three quarters of the season having already gone by, it will be extremely tough for the Indians to get back into the playoffs race. However, Manager Manny Acta will be expecting his players to be more consistent to give their fans something to cheer
about.
"I'm sure there was relief in all of Cleveland and every Cleveland fan in the country," Indians’ starter Justin Masterson said in a post game interview. "We can win."
"You feel helpless at times because you have very little control of a lot of things," Acta said of Indians’ losing streak. "I had never seen anything like this before and I hope I never see it (again)."
Twins are also in a similar situation. Right now, they are occupying fourth place on the American League Central Division standings. Skipper Ron Gardenhire and company will be looking to end the season on a bright note to salvage some of their lost pride.
"This was a very good road trip," Gardenhire said. "Hopefully we'll get back home and show our fans the same thing we've done on the road."
Shin-Soo Choo, Carlos Santana and Asdrubal Cabrera displayed some top quality hitting skills to give Indians the early momentum. For the Twins, third baseman Alexi Casilla homered to right in the fifth inning to reduce the deficit to 2-4.
However, Cleveland Indians were determined to end their losing streak. Casey Kotchman and Jason Kipnis added crucial runs in the sixth innings to keep Minnesota on the defensive.
Twins’ starting pitcher Brian Duensing continued his poor form on the mound as he gave up 11 hits and six runs in seven innings to take his seventh loss of the season.
