Minnesota Twins lose to Cleveland Indians 6-7 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins lost to the Cleveland Indians 6-7 in a nail biting encounter at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Friday, September 7 in the opening game of their four match series.
Twins will be disappointed with the result of the clash. Starting pitcher Liam Hendriks looked completely out of sorts as he gave up eight hits and four runs in just five innings, allowing Indians to score runs regularly.
Hendriks is having a forgettable season. His ERA of 6.20 and 0-7 record suggests that he still has a lot of room for improvement in his game-play. It will be interesting to see if he can learn from his mistakes to change the course of his destiny.
"I'm trying not to think about it too much," Hendriks said. "It's going to come."
"You get a lead, you have to go attack the strike zone," said Twins’ manager Ron Gardenhire. "If he wants to get a win in this league, you have to go attack hitters. If they beat you, make them beat you swinging. Not putting guys on, not going to 3-2 counts
with every hitter. He hasn't been able to do it consistently."
Relief pitcher Tyler Robertson took the loss after he gave up two hits and a run in just one inning. Alex Burnett was also hit hard in 0.1 innings of relief.
Indians’ starter Jeanmar Gomez had a testing time on the mound as he conceded three hits and four runs in just three innings.
Relief pitcher David Huff came up with a match winning effort, tossing up three plus scoreless innings to break the Twins’ momentum.
Chris Parmelee hit a sacrifice fly to left in the second inning to put Twins on the board. Josh Willingham added a double to deep right and Justin Morneau hit a sacrifice fly to right in the third to extend Minnesota’s lead to 4-0.
Indians staged an emphatic come back in the seventh inning to claim a vital 7-4 lead. Willingham and Ben Revere helped Twins’ reduce the deficit to just 6-7 but the Indians managed to hold on to their one run lead to complete a deserving win.
