Minnesota Twins lose to Detroit Tigers 1-5 in series finale – MLB Update

Minnesota Twins were beaten by the Detroit Tigers 1-5 at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Wednesday, August 15 in the finale of their three match series.
Twins’ starting pitcher Cole De Vries paid the ultimate price for his errors on the mound as he gave up four runs on eight hits in just four innings to take his fourth loss of the season.
His counterpart from Detroit, Max Scherzer dominated Minnesota’s batting line-up as he allowed just four hits and no run in seven effective innings, improving his record to 12-6.
"I needed to just fire myself up and just go after them and be aggressive with it. Once I fired myself up, put the adrenaline in and started letting the fastball lead, that's when I got back into the zone," Scherzer said.
Miguel Cabrera made another useful contribution as he hit a solo home-run in the first inning to put Detroit on the board. Delmon Young homered and Omar Infante drove in a single to help the Tigers stay ahead of their opponents.
"It's not about one person. I'm more excited because we're winning today," Cabrera said in a post game interview.
"That dude's a beast," said De Vries, who hasn't won since June 30. He allowed eight hits, four runs and two walks while striking-out three as he failed to record an out in the fifth.
Twins’ Manager Ron Gardenhire looked extremely disappointed with the result of the game. Twins hammered the Tigers 9-3 in series opener and they had an excellent chance of winning the series against Detroit.
However, the Tigers put up a masterful performance in Game 2 to keep the series alive, Miguel Cabrera, displayed some top quality hitting skills to help his side come out of the slump. The Tigers continued their good work in the finale to secure a much needed
series victory.
It will be interesting to see if Tigers can continue their impressive form over the next few days to have any chance of replacing Chicago White Sox at the top of league standings table. The Twins will be happy with their performance as they managed to compete
with the Tigers and get their offence working again.
