Minnesota Twins lose to Detroit Tigers despite Scott Diamond’s heroics – MLB Update
Scott Diamond put up an impressive performance at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Thursday, July 5 but despite his heroics, Minnesota Twins lost to Detroit Tigers 3-7 in the finale of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular
season.
Ron Gardenhire and company had an excellent chance to secure a rare series win at Comerica Park but Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder were determined to shatter their dreams. Cabrera had an excellent outing with the bat as he drove in crucial runs for his
team.
First baseman Prince Fielder, who was voted for first-base in Tuesday’s All Star Game in Kansas City, showed just why he is one of the most expensive players in the game right now. He hit a three run home-run in the eighth inning and the Tigers came back
from behind to clinch a superb victory.
"Yeah, I think we just both called for it," Laird said. "It gets loud, because the crowd really gets going, and you just kind of -- you see it all the time, for some reason, you just don't hear the other person."
"Gosh, that was awesome. As soon as he hit it, I knew he got it. I was fired up," Rookie Quintin Berry said. "I was fired up that you could tell he's been putting some good swings on some balls and not getting anything from it, just barely missing them and
seeing him get that at that point."
Manager Jim Leyland will be a proud man after what he saw from the offence on Thursday afternoon. Starting pitcher Rick Porcello allowed the Twins to get off to a flying start as he gave up three runs in just over three innings but three of Tigers’ relief
pitcher combined to pitch six scoreless innings to take pressure off the hitters.
Darin Downs gave up just a single hit in three solid innings and Octavio Dotel grabbed his second win of the season to help Detroit level the series 2-2. Brian Dozier, Denard Span and Joe Mauer all had hits for the Twins and starting pitcher Scott Diamond
pitched seven effective innings, giving up two runs and five hits.
