Minnesota Twins lose to New York Yankees 2-8 in series finale – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins were beaten by the New York Yankees 2-8 at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Wednesday, September 26 in the finale of their three match series.
After edging past the Yankees in Game 2, the Twins had an excellent chance to wrap up a rare series win against the mighty Yankees but that did not turn out to be the case. Yankees executed their game plan to perfection on Wednesday to establish complete
control over the contest.
The pitching rotation played a big part in deciding the outcome of the clash. Starting pitcher C.C. Sabathia led from the front as he pitched eight effective inning, allowing just two runs on six hits while striking-out ten batters.
"That's the best I've seen him, and I've been watching him for a long time," Mauer said. "When I was up there he was both sides of the plate: fastball, slider, sinker. He threw me everything, and everything was working."
"Hopefully, I can go out and pitch well again the next time. I'll take what I can out of this one and be ready to go five days from now," Sabathia said.
His counterpart from Minnesota, Samuel Deduno pitched just 1.2 scoreless innings. Unfortunately, he was removed from the mound after being diagnosed with irritation in his left eye.
Brian Duensing replaced Deduno to take his 11th loss of the season. Overall, Deduno gave up five hits and six runs in just one inning, allowing Yankees to dictate the terms.
"I feel like we're playing our best ball now, and this is the perfect time to be doing that," said Nick Swisher, who had an RBI single.
Relief pitchers Anthony Swarzak, Kyle Waldrop and Luis Perdomo combined to concede just two runs in six plus innings but New York held on to their lead comfortably to take the series.
Left fielder Matt Carson gave Twins the early lead as he singled to centre in the second inning. Joe Girardi and his company came back strongly though, scoring six runs in the third to take an impassable 6-1 lead. Pedro Florimon singled to shallow right
in the seventh to keep Twins’ hopes alive but his effort did not prove to be enough.
