Minnesota Twins lose to New York Yankees 4-10 – MLB news
Minnesota Twins defeated by the New York Yankees 4-10 in the first game of their four match regular series encounter on July 1 at Target Field in Minnesota.
The Yankees played wonderfully and won the game in style. Their batters and pitchers played exceptionally well and won with great ease.
“It's impressive, Hopefully he can keep it going. But what a talent he is. It's fun to watch him hit,” Pettitte said, marveling at Cano's 435-foot solo shot in the first inning and an opposite-field homer in the third.
Yankees’ entire batting lineup hammered hard the Twins’ pitchers and rattled them throughout the game. Centre fielder Brett Gardner scored one run on two hits. He played well early in the batting order as he maintained his slugging percentage of .453.
“You hope that the hard work that they've been putting in starts to pay off, Maybe this is the start of something,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said.
Shortstop Jayson Nix also did a good job on the plate as he scored two runs on single hit while he also remained calm on his slugging percentage .304.
“I feel very fortunate to be around for as long as I have,” Pettitte said.
Talented second baseman Robinson Cano once again showed his true offensive class and hit really hard. He scored four runs on three hits while he also ran for three RBIs on four at bats. Cano hit hard and maintained his slugging percentage of .527.
“We're not that team anymore that we used to have the guys that we could say, `This guy might hit two home runs in the next inning, So we've just got to take advantage when we get men on base.” Cano said.
Not only hitters, but the Yankees pitchers also performed wonderfully on the mound and helped their team win a very important first game of the series.
Designated hitter Travis Hafner scored one run on one hit while he also ran for an RBI on his four at bats.
Starting pitcher Andy Pettitte pitched five innings and allowed four runs on six hits. He also allowed four earned runs with a single homer on 4.40 ERA.
