Minnesota Twins lose to Philadelphia Phillies 1-6 - MLB Update

Minnesota Twins lost to Philadelphia Phillies 1-6 at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Thursday, June 14 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Manager Ron Gardenhire and company will be disappointed with the result of the series considering the fact the dominated the Phillies in the opening game to secure a comfortable 11-7 win. Philadelphia showed great composure and pressure handling ability
in the following game to edge the Twins 9-8 and level the series 1-1.
Credit should be given to the Phillies for maintaining excellent composure in the finale on Thursday evening to improve their record to 31-34. Minnesota, on the other hand, are sitting at the bottom of American League Central Division standings with a poor
25-37 record and it will be interesting to see if they turn things around in their upcoming games.
Ty Wigginton provided the Phillies with a perfect start as he homered to left in the second inning to put his side 1-0 ahead. Jim Thome also had an excellent time on the plate as he hit a home-run in the third inning to help his side take complete control
of the situation. Carlos Ruiz and Placido Polanco also drove in crucial runs.
"That was a very pleasant surprise," Charlie Manuel said of Joe Blanton. "It's good for him to finish the game and everything. He changed speeds very good. He did a good job."
"He pretty much chewed us up," Twins’ manager Ron Gardenhire said. "Mixing his changeups with cutters and curveballs. He works quick. Always has."
"I felt like the last two I was getting close but just not quite there, and kind of the same today," Blanton said. "It's not one where quick fixes have all of a sudden made it better. It's been trying a few things and grinding on it."
For the Twins, Trevor Plouffe homered to left in the second to score the only run of the game. Twins’ starting pitcher Scott Diamond had a forgettable time on the mound allowing four runs and five hits in just six innings. The Twins will be looking to carry
some of their winning momentum forward and build up some much needed confidence.
