Minnesota Twins lose to Seattle Mariners 0-1 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins lost to the Seattle Mariners 0-1 in a nail biting encounter at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Monday, August 27 in the opening game of their four match series.
Mariners displayed some top quality baseball skills to edge their opponents in a game that was played on an extremely competitive note. Felix Hernandez in particular was the star of the show as he created all sorts of problems for Twins’ batting line-up,
not allowing a single run in nine effective innings.
"I've been consistent the last two months," Hernandez said. "I've been trying to throw strikes, been trying to get ahead of every hitter and mix all my pitches. That's the key right now, throw strikes."
Overall, he gave up just five hits and struck-out five batters to play a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash. Felix has given some impressive performances this season. His win on Monday improved his record to 13-5 and it will be interesting to
see if he can continue his excellent run to help Mariners end the season on a positive note.
Mariners’ right fielder Eric Thames scored the only run of the game as he connected for a solo home-run to left in the eighth to lift Mariners to a much needed victory. Mariners will be looking to put up a better offensive show in Game 2 to extend their
winning streak.
"He's the real deal. That's why he's King Felix," Thames said of Hernandez. "That's why he's got the Cy Young, the perfect game, all that stuff. I'm officially a believer. I'm glad he's on my team."
"It was a good feeling, especially to know that it gave Felix a lead and once he has a lead, he's light's out," Thames said. "It's awesome."
For the Twins, starting pitcher Liam Hendriks put a brilliant show as he gave up just a run in nine innings to keep his side in the hunt but Mariners were too hot to handle on Monday as they held on to their one run lead to take a 1-0 series lead.
