Minnesota Twins lose to Toronto Blue Jays 1-2 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins suffered an embarrassing series sweep against the Toronto Blue Jays 1-2 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Wednesday, October 3 in the finale of their three match series.
Starting pitcher Scott Diamond had another excellent outing as he gave up just five hits and two runs in five solid innings but the Twins were unable to score enough runs on Wednesday.
Diamond has given some impressive results since the start of the season but inconsistency has halted his progress big time. It will be interesting to see if he can learn from the mistakes he has made to post an MVP season next year.
"It was like I was coming up for the first time again," he said of his energy and excitement. "It's the first time coming home and having a lot of people in the stands. The adrenaline was running a little bit more than normal."
"He finished the fourth and fifth and we weren't going to let him go back out there after something like that," Twins’ manager Ron Gardenhire said. "Heck of a year for that young man. He did a great job and threw the ball very well again today."
Relief pitchers Alex Burnett and Luis Perdomo combined to toss up three scoreless innings but their effort did not prove to be enough. Blue Jays’ starter Brandon Morrow played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash, allowing just three hits and
one run while striking-out eleven batters.
Rays’ batting line-up should be blamed for the loss as it wasted a large number of scoring opportunities. Only Matt Carson managed to get a hit off Morrow as he grounded into fielder’s choice to third in the fourth inning.
For the Blue Jays, Rajai Davis singled to left in the third inning to score the first run. Adeiny Hechavarria stretched the lead 2-0 as he singled to shallow centre in the third inning.
Twins’ Manager Ron Gardenhire will be extremely disappointed with his team’s overall performance and surely he will be looking to make some changes to the batting and pitching line-ups.
