Minnesota Twins lose to Toronto Blue Jays 3-4 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins fell to the inform Toronto Blue Jays 3-4 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Tuesday, October 2 in second game of their three match series.
Both teams displayed some top quality fighting skills in a match that was played on an extremely competitive note. Blue Jays held their nerves under pressure to prevail, taking an impassable 2-0 series lead. Manager John Farrell will be very happy with what
he has seen from his men over the last couple of weeks.
Although the Blue Jays are out of the playoff race, they will be looking to build on some much needed confidence before the start of the next season.
Twins, on the other hand, once again were unable to cross the finish line. The pitching rotation did what they were supposed to do but the batting line-up disappointed fans big time as they failed to put up enough runs on the board.
Twins’ starting pitcher Anthony Swarzak tossed up five innings, allowing four runs on five hits to take his sixth loss of the season. Relief pitchers Kyle Waldrop, Luis Perdomo, Tyler Robertson and Casey Fien combined to pitch four scoreless innings but
their effort did not prove to be enough.
"I'm definitely proud of how many games I've played," said Joe Mauer, who was one of the candidates for the AL MVP award. "It's been a battle but it's been pretty good."
"Unless (Mauer) goes 9 for 9 tomorrow, he might not be able to catch (Cabrera)," Twins’ manager Ron Gardenhire said in a post game interview.
"I think he got a little bit tired," Gardenhire said of Swarzak, who had not started since May 25. "He made pitches and gave us an opportunity."
Blue Jays broke the deadlock in the third inning, thanks to Rajai Davis who singled to centre to score the first run. Kelly Johnson homered to right centre in the fourth to dent Twins’ confidence levels.
For Minnesota, Denard Span homered to right in the sixth inning and Alexi Casilla doubled to deep right in the seventh to reduce Blue Jays lead to 4-3.
