Minnesota Twins lose to Toronto Blue Jays 5-6 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 5-6 in a thrilling encounter at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Monday, October 1 in the opening game of their three match series.
Blue Jays will be extremely happy with the way they handled pressure in a game that turned out to be a thriller. Credit should be given to the batting line-up for holding the nerves under immense pressure.
First baseman Yan Gomes had an excellent time with the bat as he hit a mighty home-run in the bottom of the ninth to level the score 5-5 and take the match into the extra inning.
Left fielder Anthony Gose played a big part in deciding the outcome of the clash as he drove in an RBI single in the tenth.
Twins’ starting pitcher Esmerling Vasquez gave up just three runs in five plus innings to keep Twins in the game. Relief pitcher Glen Perkins allowed a run in the ninth and the closer gave up the go ahead run in the tenth to take his 12th loss
of the season.
"He did a real nice job moving the ball in and out and gave us a great opportunity," Gardenhire said.
"You can't throw the ball home there; we've got to try and turn two," he further added. "We didn't; we went the other way.”
"We had our closer in the game," Gardenhire said. "It was supposed to be our ballgame and it didn't work out."
"Those little things end up killing you in the end, and they did tonight," Gardenhire said.
Twins’ Manager Ron Gardenhire will be disgusted at the outcome of the game. Twins dominated the Blue Jays from start until the end but they were outplayed in finer details of the game.
Trevor Plouffe displayed some top quality hitting skills as he homered to centre in the second inning to put Minnesota on the board. Plouffe later added a double to left and Joe Mauer singled to shallow centre in the fifth to give Twins a commanding 4-1
lead. However, the Blue Jays bounced back strongly to grab victory from the jaws of defeat.
