Minnesota Twins might change Justin Morneau’s position next season – MLB News
With winter baseball meeting is coming closer, as the Twins’ management is getting more desperate and trying hard to go the extra mile preparing for the 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Recently, when the Twins’ manager Ron Gardenhire spoke officially in the media about Justin Morneau and changing his position for the future season, many baseball experts did say and boldly commented that this might hurt him roughly and might not suit his
playing style.
The simple reason of playing at a certain position and suddenly changing it to a different position sometimes creates problems for a particular player and mainly for those, who always feel more comfortable at their present playing positions.
Looking at the comment of Twins’ manager Gardenhire when he said, “One of the things Terry (Ryan, the Twins' GM) and I talked about is making sure before we get too deep in this thing what were going to do with Morny, Where he is going to play, if it is
DH, Morny has to eventually tell us what's right for him or I'll make the decision for him and we will go from there.”
Though, many other options are still on the cards but the recent comments clearly suggest that his position from first base to designated hitter will likely happen in the future.
The Twins last season’s overall performance was poor when compared to 2010, where some of their players did very well including Morneau.
The Twins also know that Morneau is currently injured and not fully fit after receiving a concussion injury late in 2010 but after receiving some extra care from doctors, he might come back soon and most probably in the next Spring Training session in March
2011.
This late decision regarding his position is somehow not going to help him. He is more comfortable with his current playing position and likely to resist playing as DH. It will be interesting to see what position the Twins decide to put Morneau for next
season. He is an immensely talented player that can play anywhere.
