Minnesota Twins outclassed by Chicago White Sox 4-7 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins were outclassed by the Chicago White Sox 4-7 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Monday, July 23 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Twins’ starting pitcher Francisco Liriano had another poor outing as he gave up seven hits and seven runs in just over two innings. It was Liriano’s 10th loss of the season and it will be great see if he can come with the right tactics on his
next appearance.
"I wasn't throwing anything down in the zone. I was missing my spots most of the time. I didn't have anything going for me tonight," Liriano said. "I couldn't locate my pitches. It was one of those nights."
Paul Konerko, Adam Dunn and Alex Rios all hit home runs for the White Sox.
"Like I said the offense sputtered for the last probably 10 days. We were able to get Gavin some runs early," said Adam Dunn.
"We've got two months of baseball, real meaningful baseball," Dunn added. "The goal is to get out of this little funk we're in now and when it matters get hot. Who knows what is going to happen?"
Twins’ Manager Ron Gardenhire will be very discouraged with what he saw from his players on Monday evening. Minnesota displayed some top quality baseball skills to topple Kansas City Royals in their previous.
Their fans were expecting them to continue the good work against Chicago but it seems the Twins are finding it extremely tough to win games on a regular basis.
The loss to the White Sox damaged Twins’ record to 40-56 and it will be interesting to see if they can end the season with their head held high.
Josh Willingham provided Minnesota with an excellent start as he grounded into double play in the first and Denard Span scored the opening run.
Brian Dozier scored on wild pitch and Joe Mauer singled to centre in the fifth to keep the Twins in the game.
Ryan Doumit homered to right in the eighth to add spice to the proceedings but the White Sox held on to their three run lead comfortably to snap the losing streak.
